The Sanskrit name ginger is the only clue botanists have that indicate the possible origin for ginger as being India.  The Southeast Asian tropics are another possible location of origin.  Part of the mystery associated with the origins of ginger is wrapped up in years of secretive trade dealings.  While seeking to protect their personal passage of g7inger from Greeks and

Romans, Arabs fabricated a fable about the ruthless and primitive people they called Troglodutes.  The Arabs had more than commerce to protect.  In the Koran, ginger is mentioned as a spiritual and heavenly beverage.

Africa produces the most pungent ginger, while milder varieties come from China.  The more pungent the ginger the more therapeutic it is.  The milder varieties serve culinary purposes.
